Yanzhou Anchi: Powering Global Robotics with High-Precision Hub Motors

At the recently concluded Fair Plus 2025: Fair of AI and Robotics, plus, a hub motor manufacturer from Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province drew significant attention from visitors and industry players. Ms. Shi Jiandi, General Manager of Yangzhou Anchi Electromechanical Co., Ltd., sat down with China Exportsemi Editor-in-Chief Chen Lu for an exclusive interview. Their conversation shed light on how this innovation-driven company has made its mark globally through differentiated technologies, consistent quality, and a clear international vision.

1. A Decade of Focus: Doing the Hard but Right Thing

Founded in 2015, Anchi Electromechanical has stayed firmly committed to a development path defined by focus, precision, and independence. The company has chosen to specialize in a niche yet technically demanding field: hub motors—compact drive modules that integrate motors, electromagnetic brakes, gear reduction mechanisms, and encoders. These are widely used in AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles), AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots), and cleaning robots.

“Our product may look like just a wheel, but behind it lies an intricate system involving motor control, braking safety, power delivery, and intelligent sensing,” said Shi Jiandi. “We've spent ten years tackling the challenges others have avoided.”

Since 2016, Anchi has applied for and secured numerous invention and utility model patents. In 2018, it even obtained a patent for a key structural design in Japan—a testament to the international competitiveness of its core technologies. From structural design to system integration, Anchi's products strike a balance of high integration, compactness, and reliability.

2. Technical Highlights: Stability, Safety, and Versatility

At the expo, Anchi showcased its flagship hub motor model—equipped with power brushes, encoder, electromagnetic brake, and designed for low-speed, waterproof operation. The motor offers several notable technical advantages:

  1. High Protection Rating: With IP66 waterproof and dustproof protection, the motor performs reliably even in wet, dusty, or short-term immersion environments.

  2. Built-in Electromagnetic Brake: Automatically locks when power is cut, eliminating the need for external braking systems and significantly enhancing safety—especially on slopes or uneven terrain.

  3. Integrated Encoder: Enables high-precision position detection and feedback control, meeting the demands of high-end AGV/AMR systems.

  4. Compact and Lightweight: Contributes to system-wide weight reduction, lower energy consumption, and longer battery life.

“Our brake system was specifically designed to address robot slippage,” Shi noted. “If the system detects abnormal reverse current, the electromagnetic brake kicks in immediately to ensure maximum safety for both personnel and equipment.”

3. Japanese Customers: Meeting “Almost Harsh” Standards of Consistency and Safety

Anchi’s first major overseas breakthrough came from Japan. Shi revealed that the company’s earliest foreign orders were from Japanese clients—known for their rigorous product validation standards. These include extensive testing under extreme temperatures, waterproofing, long-term durability, and above all, consistency.

Anchi passed every test. Its products now feature in mobile systems used by several leading Japanese manufacturers, including a project affiliated with the Toyota Group. High production consistency and low failure rates helped Anchi earn the trust of Japan’s discerning customers.

4. Norwegian Clients: Pioneering New Applications in the Fisheries Industry

While Japanese clients emphasize rigor and reliability, Norwegian partners reflect a different strength: application-driven innovation.

One of Anchi’s largest client groups in Norway comes from the fisheries equipment sector. To meet the challenges of cold, damp, and salt-heavy coastal environments, the company required drive systems that could endure long-term operation in harsh conditions while supporting intelligent control features.

Anchi’s hub motors were a perfect fit. In particular, they power an automated fishing net deployment and retrieval system, showcasing Anchi’s adaptability across industries and geographies.

5. Market Strategy: Value over Price

Despite intensifying global competition and price wars in the motor industry, Anchi has stayed its course—refusing to compete on price and instead focusing on technological value and differentiation.

Anchi maintains strict control over its brand and technological output. As Shi emphasized, “For Chinese manufacturing to go global, it cannot rely on being cheap. It must be backed by consistent quality and solution-oriented capabilities.”

6. Steady Progress: Expanding to Europe, the U.S., and Southeast Asia

Looking ahead, Anchi plans to consolidate its presence in Japan while expanding into Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia. The global trend toward logistics automation and increased demand for mobile robotics presents significant growth opportunities.

Shi also noted that except for South Africa, customers from nearly every global region are already in the sample-testing phase.

7. Conclusion: From a Single Wheel, A Global Pathway for Chinese Manufacturing

In an industry often focused on universal platforms or low-cost mass production, Anchi has chosen a different path—carving depth and precision into a seemingly simple component. Through a strategy rooted in technical excellence and application specificity, the company has built a steady and scalable international presence.

As global markets continue to embrace robotics, automation, and intelligent systems, companies like Yangzhou Anchi Electromechanical are emerging as powerful representatives of China’s intelligent manufacturing capabilities on the world stage.
