Intel: It is expected to deliver more than 40 million AI PC processors in 2024

Recently, Intel officially said that thanks to the success of the Core Ultra processor and the upcoming addition of Lunar Lake processors, starting in the third quarter of 2024, Lunar Lake will power more than 80 new laptop models from more than 20 OEMs, and the company expects to deliver more than 40 million AI PC processors in 2024.

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology, AI PC processors are gradually becoming the core driving force of the personal computer market. As a chip with integrated artificial intelligence functions, the AI PC processor provides users with a smarter and more convenient computing experience through efficient algorithms and data processing capabilities. Compared with traditional PC processors, AI PC processors have significant advantages in image recognition, speech recognition, and natural language processing, which can bring users richer application scenarios and smoother user experience.

According to a report by market research agency IDC, AI PC shipments are expected to approach 50 million units in 2024 and grow to 167 million units by 2027, accounting for about 60% of total global PC shipments. This forecast reflects the huge potential and rapid development trend of the AI PC market. With the continuous advancement of AI technology and the expansion of application scenarios, AI PCs are gradually shifting from a niche market to a mainstream market, and are expected to achieve significant growth in the next few years.

Intel's presence in the AI PC processor market demonstrates its long-term commitment and strategic vision in this area. The success of the Core Ultra processors, coupled with the upcoming Lunar Lake processors, will provide Intel with strong support in the competition in the AI PC market. Lunar Lake is expected to be a breakthrough AI PC mobile processor that will further drive the adoption and adoption of AI PCs.

IDC's definition of AI PCs is divided into three categories: hardware-supported AI PCs, next-generation AI PCs, and advanced AI PCs. Hardware-enabled AI PCs typically contain NPUs with hashrate performance of less than 40 TOPS, while next-generation AI PCs include an NPU with 40-60 TOPS performance and an AI-first operating system. Advanced AI PCs, on the other hand, are those with NPU performance greater than 60 TOPS, and while there are no product releases yet, they are expected to appear in the next few years.

With the rapid growth of the AI PC market, machine manufacturers such as Lenovo Group are also actively deploying and launching a variety of AI PC products equipped with Intel processors. These products not only meet the needs of the commercial market, but also provide new options for individual users. It is expected that by 2027, AI PCs will account for 85% of shipments, which will inject new vitality into the traditional PC industry and promote the technological progress and market expansion of the entire industry.

Intel's plan to deliver more than 40 million AI PC processors this year is a microcosm of the rapid growth of the AI PC market. With the continuous maturity of technology and the continuous expansion of the market, AI PC will become an important force to promote the development of the personal computer industry. Intel's move will undoubtedly accelerate the application of AI technology in the field of personal computers, bringing users a more intelligent and personalized computing experience.
