Sivers and Ayar Labs Expanding Partnership for High Volume Manufacturing of Optical I/O Solutions

Sivers Semiconductors AB in Hista, Sweden, which provides RF beamformer ICs for satellite communications and photonic lasers for AI data centers, is in discussions with Ayar Labs, a strategic partner headquartered in San Jose, California, USA, to advance the next phase of the collaboration. The collaboration is focused on large-scale production to support the deployment of Ayar Labs optical interconnect solutions, particularly in the area of in-package optical interconnects.

Sivers Semiconductors points out that to achieve large-scale deployment of high-bandwidth, low-power AI data centers in the future, it will be necessary to shift from traditional copper I/O interconnect technology to more efficient fiber I/O interconnect technology. This shift has been widely embraced by the industry, including Nvidia, AMD, Intel, and several hyperscale data center companies. In the next few years, the industry's focus will shift from early technology research and development to building a strong manufacturing ecosystem to achieve rapid technology implementation and large-scale adoption. Ayar Labs, a major innovator in fiber optic I/O solutions, is at the forefront of this transformation.

Mark Wade, CEO of Ayar Labs, said, "We plan to further deepen our strategic partnership with Sivers Semiconductors through non-recurring engineering (NRE) and product pre-orders to prepare for optical I/O deployments in our AI infrastructure. We believe that this will effectively solve the bandwidth bottleneck currently faced by AI data centers. ”

Vickram Vathulya, CEO of Sivers Semiconductors, also highlighted that Ayar Labs recently announced the closing of a $155 million Series D funding round led by Advent Global Opportunities and Light Street Capital, with active participation from Nvidia and other top chip companies. From a strategic, technical and financial perspective, Ayar Labs is already in a very strong position to expect significant growth in shipments of its optical I/O solutions over the next 18-24 months. Vickram Vathulya further pointed out that the continued investment and support of Ayar Labs from top chip manufacturers, foundries and investors shows that the market has strong confidence in its optical I/O technology, especially in the innovative applications of AI data centers.

He added, "Sivers' high-performance laser arrays will be a key enabler in driving AI data center optical I/O solutions. We are very much looking forward to further development of our strategic collaboration with Ayar Labs, especially during the critical phase of future large-scale production and manufacturing readiness."

With the advent of the era of AI and big data, the demand for bandwidth in data centers is increasing, and optical fiber interconnection technology is gaining more and more attention as a key solution to solve this bottleneck. Ayar Labs' optical chip interconnect solutions developed through silicon photonics technology are becoming one of the indispensable technologies in AI data centers and hyperscale data centers. Sivers Semiconductors' technical advantages in the field of laser arrays will provide important support for the wide application of this cutting-edge technology.

In the future, as the two companies further cooperate to jointly promote the realization of large-scale optical I/O solutions, AI data centers will usher in more efficient and energy-saving technology upgrades to meet the urgent demand for bandwidth and computing power in data centers around the world.
